News and Announcements
To the Parents of West Kelowna Minor Baseball,
We are happy to announce that we have received approval to resume Baseball in 2020.
ViaSport, Baseball BC and BC Minor Baseball have approved for Minor Baseball to resume under strict Return-to-Play (RTP) guidelines for the Summer 2020 Season. We have attached these guidelines for you to review with your child before you register them for the 2020 Summer Baseball Season. All Parent and Player Waivers must be signed before they can participate in any baseball activity. This is mandatory “no exceptions”.
As of right now, we will not be playing games as per the current RTP Guidelines. We will be focusing on Skill Development with an emphasis on the 5 Tools of Baseball; Hitting for Power, Hitting for Contact, Throwing, Catching and Base Running.
The current plan is for 7U & 9U to have 2 Baseball camps per month, with 11U, 13U & 15U practicing twice a week until the end of August.
If allowances to play games are granted during the season from our governing bodies, we will meet as a board to explore our options of adapting back to a “normal season”. We will keep you updated as new information comes.
After registration, your division director will be in touch with you regarding more guidelines specific to your division, as well as the first group time/day for evaluations to place players in groups of similar skilled players.
With these times being as unprecedented as they are, we appreciate your patience as we move through the necessary steps to get our players back on the field. We ask for your help in respects to abiding and promoting the guidelines set forth. Should any players/parents refuse to follow the guidelines, they will be asked to leave the field. If players/parents are asked to leave the field on a second occasion they will not be allowed back and a refund will “NOT” be issued.
With the new guidelines set forth, the board has decided not to have “team bats” to eliminate any equipment sharing between players. Should you need a Baseball Bat, we will be selling bats from our collection for a reduced price at the main field Saturday July 4th between 10:00am-12:00pm, you may also purchase your own from any local sports store. If you cannot make it to this sale, our division directors will also be selling them to players at the first sessions or upon later request if supplies are still available.
Thank you for your understanding and co-operation through these unique times. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact any of our board members.
To Parents & Players of West Kelowna Minor Baseball,
Some of you will have received your refunds for the 2020 Spring Season while others have not yet, we apologize for the delay to those still waiting, but have run into an issue with our PayPal service which is delaying refunding of the remaining balances to your accounts. We believe the problem has been resolved and should be continuing with the remainder of refunds within the next 7 days. Thanks for your patience during this time.
WKMBA Board of Directors
To All Players, Parents, Coaches & Volunteers of West Kelowna Minor Baseball,
After much consideration & discussion internally, due to ongoing concerns surrounding COVID-19, the WKMBA Board of Directors voted on Monday, April 13th to Cancel the 2020 Spring Baseball Season effective immediately.
The safety of our players & community is our top priority, and with the current situation as it is, we believe this decision is in the best interest of everyone involved in West Kelowna Minor Baseball.
Given this decision, West Kelowna Minor Baseball will be refunding all registration fees.
We are hoping to begin this process by the end of the week with completion in as little as 7-14 days.
There is some possibility of a shortened season later this year once the governing bodies deem it safe to do so, the City of West Kelowna opens sports fields, we will update you on the ongoing situation as we receive updates.
We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.
While the suspension of all Baseball activities in BC continues, we still have almost a month until our initial planned opening day, which was scheduled for April 19th.
All parties involved, including Baseball Canada, Baseball BC, BC Minor Baseball, West Kelowna Minor Baseball, BC Baseball Umpires Association and the City of West Kelowna all want to see the season proceed, but like everyone else, we understand the magnitude of the current situation with the COVID-19 Virus. In the background, plans are still being made to proceed with the season if and when we get full clearance to resume play by Baseball BC, our Provincial Sports Organization, and BC Minor Baseball. We have had some inquiries regarding the status of the season.
We ask at this time for your patience while we see how the situation unfolds and can make a definitive decision regarding the future of the 2020 Baseball Season.Should the season not proceed, WKMBA will be issuing a full refund to all players who have paid their registration fees. The Board of Directors of West Kelowna Minor Baseball will continue to prepare for the upcoming season until it is no longer feasible to do so. We will keep you posted with any updates as we receive them. Thank you,
