News and Announcements
West Kelowna Minor Baseball is proud to announce Jesse McKay has been recognized as BC Baseball Association’s “Outstanding Female Athlete” for 2016. Jesse was presented the award at the recent BC Baseball Awards Luncheon which was held at the Langley Event Center in conjunction with the BC Baseballs Annual Coaching Convention. Marty van der Loos and Rob Ross coaches of the National Selects 16U Team gave Jesse her award.
McKay has been a part of the Girls program since 2013 and is a power pitcher and hitter who can hit the long ball … but also hit for average.*
Jesse has gotten better with every year and her hard work has paid off when she was invited to a Team Canada prospects camp in 2016.*
McKay has also become a great mentor for the younger girls and has the competitive drive and a willingness to learn what’s need to be successful at the highest level, making coming to the ballpark a pleasure.*
There is no doubt she will be successful in her future endeavors on the ballfield and will be missed by her past coaches and teammates.*
The Board of Directors would like to congratulate Jesse on her accomplishment.
signed up or attending on a drop-in basis. The 11U and 13U divisions are working out Saturday mornings at Sensisyusten gym and one night each at the Okanagan Ice and Training Center batting cage. Rich Swift runs the Saturday morning 11U sessions, with help from Dustin Joslin and others, while Shane Grant, Rich and Dustin are out on the Monday 11U hitting sessions. This is the first year the 11U division has had its own hitting night and the results have been excellent. The improvement after just the first 3-4 sessions has been very noticeable. The 13U’s have their skill sessions on Saturdays from 10:30 am -12 pm, right after the 11U sessions. The 13U ’S Saturday sessions are coached by Dbacks 18U AAA Head Coach Tom Katelnikoff and Ewan Robertson with help from ex WKMBA player, and Cinnicatti Reds draft pick Morgan Lofstrom. The 13U hitting sessions are run by Coach Tom, Chris Hellar and Paul Gilmore. Many of the 13U players play hockey and drop in whenever possible. Again the players love coming out and are improving weekly.
The combined 15U/18U session are running 3 days a week this year. Sunday night are at the Capital News Center

WKMBA Head coach Tom says it has been a pleasure to have the Lofstroms out. They have added a real good dimension to our winter ball program. It is good to see players getting the reps in. Baseball is a high skill activity. and the more players get reps in the better all player they will become. Winter Ball continues thru early March. There is still room for players who want to come on a drop-in basis. If you have any questions, contact your division director or Coach Tom at 250.864.2198,

Happy New Year Everyone!
The 2016 West Kelowna Minor Baseball AGM was well attended with approximately 20 parents, coaches & directors in attendance. This year was especially important as not-for-profit societies needed to ratify new bylaws and a new constitution to comply with the BC Government’s new rules and regulations. The new bylaws and constitution were both unanimously accepted by all in attendance. Along with the new bylaws and constitution, Division Directors & Executive gave reports to the meeting. The minutes can be found here.
The meeting did leave one executive position open. WKMBA is looking a volunteer to be the Secretary of the Association. If you are interested, please contact Tom Katelnikoff at TomKatelnikoff@Hotmail.com or by phone at 250-864-2198.
The following director’s have completed their terms and have elected not to continue with their positions. We would like to thank Carol Katelnikoff for her work in the 15U division and in the Concession, Chantelle Funk for her work as Secretary, Ron Baun for his work as Treasurer and Larry Martel for his work as 18U Director.
