The West Kelowna 13U AA team will compete this weekend in a Zone tournament to determine which 2 Interior teams will play in the 2016 Provincial Tournament.
The 13U AA Dbacks will be competing against SOMBA (Penticton), COMBA (Kelowna/Rutland) and Kamloops for the berth.
Meanwhile, 2 other West Kelowna teams have already earned the right to play in this years Provincials. The 11U AAA Tier 2 team is hosting this year’s Provincial and receives a berth, but will be playing in a 4 team tournament this weekend in Penticton to improve their draw.
The 18U AAA DBacks will finish their league play this weekend at Boucherie, which will determine who they face in a best of three playoff, next weekend. The winner of the best of three will then move on to play in final games Aug 5-7.
For the second straight year the West Kelowna Dbacks won the 18U AAA division in the Valley of Champions tournament. The Dbacks went 3-1 in round robin play, losing only to Victoria Eagles 5-2 in a 6 inning game which was shortened due to rain. The Snakes had wins over the Kelowna Sun Devils (10-2),
Chilliwack Cougars (23-3), and Abbotsford Angels (18-3). The round Robin play set up a rematch with Victoria who went 4-0. In the championship game the Victoria threw their ace pitcher Colton Weibe who had thrown 3 no hitters in a row going into the game, While West Kelowna
responded with Matt Greer, who has had a solid season on the mound. Victoria jumped out to a 3-1 lead after one inning, but in the second inning the Dbacks bats got going as they put up 7 runs and knocked the Victoria starter out of the game. Victoria pushed back in the fourth inning with 3 runs and another 2 in the fifth, but the West Kelowna team added 2 runs in the fifth and another 3 in the 6th to take the wins. Congratulation to all the teams who competed in this years tournament.
West Kelowna 15 U A team 1 won the South Okanagan Playoffs on Wednesday June 29th. After over a week of games, the final came down to WK1 vs WK2. Was a great game ending in a score of 7-6. The South Okanagan playoffs included WK1, WK2, WK3, Summerland, Penticton and Keremeos. Congratulations to WK1 and WK2 for winning your way to the final. Also great job WK3.
The 2016 WKMBA 11U 10 team tournament kicked off Friday May 27th. The 10 team tournament will take place through Sunday on the Upper field and Daroche Park. The Championship game will be played on Sunday.
Signs that the 2016 season baseball season is just around are everywhere. With the City of West Kelowna opening the fields last Friday, the divisions 11U, 13U A and 15U A are busy holding evaluations this week. It is hoped to have all the teams in these divisions will be picked by Friday April 15th.
The Dbacks tiered teams are already picked. These teams include the 13U AA, 15U AA and
18U AAA. The 18U AAA Dbacks opened their season on the coast last weekend dropping a pair to the Cloverdale Nationals on Saturday before losing 2 games to the 18U AAA defending Champion
Ridge Meadow Royals. The 13 U AA team is playing there first game on Wednesday April 13th.
