WKMBA will be offering a Fall Ball program again this fall for the 11U, 13U and 15U and 18U divisions.
11U 11U is run in conjunction with the City of West Kelowna. It is a 10-Session Program that runs Mondays & Wednesdays from September 12th to October 12th. The sessions will go from 5:00-6:30pm and will take place at Upper Boucherie Field. The Details & Registration Link have been posted on the WKMBA website on the right-hand side of the main page and the cost for the program is $70 for 10 Sessions.
13U The sessions will run Tuesdays & Thursdays with some exhibition games. . This will run 4-5 weeks, depending on weather, ending around October 9th. Exhibition games will be played some weeknights and on the weekend. Players will register for our 13U Fall Ball Program through our WKMBA website. The cost will be $75 and include a jersey.
15U Will run from Sept 6 through Oct. 23rd depending on the weather. Practices will be Tues/Thurs from 5:30-7:30.
Exhibition games will be some weeknights and on the weekend with 1-2 tournaments. Cost $125. Will include a jersey.
18U Will run Tues/Thurs from 5:30- 7:30. 18U will play in 2-3 tournaments and exhibition games. Cost will be $175 and include a jersey.
The 11U AAA Dbacks showed well at the Provincial tournament hosted by West Kelowna July 28th thru 31st.
The Dbacks went 2-2 in the tournament. The team started the tournament with an impressive 16-10 win over Cloverdale on day one before falling to North Langley 12-1. Day to also saw the West Kelowna team start the day with a win over Duncan 11-10 before falling to Tsawwassen in their final game. Had the Dbacks won they would have been playing in the crossover game. The weekend was a great experience for the team, and will definitely they can build on for next year.
The West Kelowna 13-AA D-Backs qualified themselves for the 2016 Provincials being held Aug4-7 in Parksville, BC on Vancouver Island.
The D-Backs went 2-1 in the Zone Qualifying Tournament hosted by COMBA this past weekend. The D-Backs started with a convincing 12-5 win over host team COMBA Saturday morning, followed by a disappointing 20-2 loss at the hands of Interior Favourite SOMBA Saturday Evening.
Sunday morning in a “Must Win” situation the D-Backs stepped up their game and defeated Kamloops by a score of 10-5. During the weekend the D-Backs had stellar Pitching Performances from Clark Swift, Aidan Gross, Leyland Vucinovic and Chase Heller. On the offensive side the entire team hit the ball well, with some clutch hitting performances by Josh Carefoot, Jaydon Wielders, Ethan Swift, Tyson Hickson & Zane McFarlane. Unable to play were Kiran Grewal (Injury), Julian Pearson & Ryder Kinnear. Bat Boy Jordan Wielders kept the team motivated all weekend! When asked, Head Coach Patrick Wielders said he was proud of his teams’ performance; “The team has come together well after playing 40+ games since April this year, and I thank Assistant Coaches Rich Swift, Chris Heller and Russ Hickson as well as all the parents for the help and support this year!”
The West Kelowna 13U AA team will compete this weekend in a Zone tournament to determine which 2 Interior teams will play in the 2016 Provincial Tournament.
The 13U AA Dbacks will be competing against SOMBA (Penticton), COMBA (Kelowna/Rutland) and Kamloops for the berth.
Meanwhile, 2 other West Kelowna teams have already earned the right to play in this years Provincials. The 11U AAA Tier 2 team is hosting this year’s Provincial and receives a berth, but will be playing in a 4 team tournament this weekend in Penticton to improve their draw.
The 18U AAA DBacks will finish their league play this weekend at Boucherie, which will determine who they face in a best of three playoff, next weekend. The winner of the best of three will then move on to play in final games Aug 5-7.
For the second straight year the West Kelowna Dbacks won the 18U AAA division in the Valley of Champions tournament. The Dbacks went 3-1 in round robin play, losing only to Victoria Eagles 5-2 in a 6 inning game which was shortened due to rain. The Snakes had wins over the Kelowna Sun Devils (10-2),
Chilliwack Cougars (23-3), and Abbotsford Angels (18-3). The round Robin play set up a rematch with Victoria who went 4-0. In the championship game the Victoria threw their ace pitcher Colton Weibe who had thrown 3 no hitters in a row going into the game, While West Kelowna
responded with Matt Greer, who has had a solid season on the mound. Victoria jumped out to a 3-1 lead after one inning, but in the second inning the Dbacks bats got going as they put up 7 runs and knocked the Victoria starter out of the game. Victoria pushed back in the fourth inning with 3 runs and another 2 in the fifth, but the West Kelowna team added 2 runs in the fifth and another 3 in the 6th to take the wins.
