WKMBA will be offering a Fall Ball program again this fall for the 11U, 13U and 15U and 18U divisions.
The purpose of the Fall program is to give our players a head start on next year and to extend the playing season while the weather is nice with a focus on development. This is also a chance to bring players together that were in different programs and teams over the regular season. Fall Ball is designed to give players an opportunity to work on improving the five tools of baseball. We look to improve hitting for power, and hitting for average, throw and catching, as well as overall speed. The focus is on having fun and working hard.

See you on the field,
WKMBA hosted the BCBA 2018 13U A East, Provincials this past weekend (August 8-12). The 10 team tournament began on Thursday morning and concluded Sunday evening. A total of 23 games were played to determine a winner. There was only 1 game over the weekend that had to be delayed due to darkness but was made up on Sunday. This did however cause the semi final games and championship game to be pushed back 3 hours on Sunday.
The tournament began with a coaches meeting Wednesday night, hosted by BC Baseball, followed by 6 games on Thursday.
Thursday night saw the Opening Ceremonies go off without a hitch. West Kelowna Mayor, Doug Findlater welcomed all the guest to West Kelowna. Followed by Parade of Teams, onto the field and singing of O Canada, led by Carol Katelnikoff.
Following the Opening Ceremonies, the skill competition took place. This was a 4 event competition. Winning players were given gift bag and concession coupon. West Kelowna won the base running relay. Good job Boys!!!
Friday saw a full slate of 8 games, which began at 9am and went till after 8pm.
Saturday was the windup of the pool play.
Sunday was the semi-finals and Championship games. In the Semifinals, Aldergrove beat Prince George and Salmon Arm beat Abbotsford. In the Championship game, Salmon Arm Hornets beat Aldergrove Dodgers to win the 2018 Provincial Championship.
I received so many compliments from coaches, parents, and spectators on what a well-run tournament we put on.
A great big thank to Teena Gillmore and all the volunteers who helped make this tournament a success.
Four West Kelowna Dbacks teams will compete in Zone Playoffs this weekend.
The 11U AAA Tier 2 team is off to Kamloops to compete. the 11U AAA team has had a good exhibition schedule, as well as a good showing at The Valley of Champions. With the Provincial Tournament being held in Vernon, it would be great to see our team make it.
The 13U A team will host the 10 team East Provincial Tournament Aug 9-12th at Upper Boucherie and Darroch Parks. The 13U A Snakes get an automatic berth as host in the Provincial but still must compete in Zone Playoffs to determine seeding and which pool they will play in, the Zone playoffs are being held in Penticton.
The 13U AAA team is in Richmond this weekend competing in a Wildcard Tournament for 1 of 2 Provincial berths. 7 other teams from throughout BC are also competing in this Wildcard tournament. If they win one of these berths, their Provincial Tournament will be in Vernon August 1-6th.
The 18U College Prep DBacks are traveling to Ridge Meadow, Hammond Stadium this weekend to play in a best of 3 series against the Ridge Meadow Royals. The Dbacks and Royals split their 6 regular season games with 3 wins each. The winner of this series will advance to the Final 4 Tournament in Cloverdale, August 3-6th.
The WKMBA Board would like to wish all our teams Good Luck!
Go DBacks Go!!!!!
The 11U T2-AAA D-Backs had a good showing at the VOC tournament on the weekend finishing a respectful 4th place out of a 10 team tournament with T1 & T2 teams. They started off with a 7-6 win over the T1-AAA Prince George Knights then a 14-6 loss to the eventual tournament winners T1-AAA St.Albert. Saturday saw the D-Backs get 2 wins on the day, one against the T2-AAA Victoria Eagles 13-7 and followed that with a 24-10 win over the COMBA T2-AAA. The semi finals started off against a tough T2-AAA Vernon team with a 7-3 loss and in the consolation game our D-Backs put up a good fight against the T1-AAA Victoria Eagles taking them into the 8th inning for a 13-11 loss.
