18U AAA Tryout Notice
West Kelowna D-Backs 18U AAA Information
West Kelowna Minor Baseball is excited on many fronts, this will be our fourth season as an 18U AAA team, and for some players, this will be their fourth season playing for the D-Backs. Based on the experience and age of the group this year, we are looking forward to a breakout season. To that end, we have hired an experienced coach in Mike Wilson. Mike has coached two separate tenures in the PBL with the North Delta Blue Jays and the North Shore Twins. Mike was also on the coaching staff of the 2005 18U AAA Provincial Champion Richmond Chuckers. Mike has worked for facilities across western Canada such as the Okotoks Baseball Academy in Okotoks, AB, Big League Experience Baseball Camp in Oliver, BC and The Bullpen training facility in New Westminster. On top of this, Mike has worked as a Strength and Conditioning coach for various teams as well as having experience personal training. Mike has been appointed to be the Head Coach of the D-Backs, he will be assisted by Todd and Brett Loeppky as well as Tom Katelnikoff. Tom will also serve as the teams GM.
This year 15 teams have declared their intention to play 18U AAA, including new teams in Duncan, Nanaimo, Aldergrove, Rutland/Kelowna and Vernon. The schedule should consist of 40-42 games and the league will be divided into 2 divisions. As well, it is our plan to play in 3 tournaments, plus the Provincial Championships. The provincial winner this year could be representing BC at the CABA West National Championship in Fremont, California.
The roster will be from 14-16 players, which is open to players from Penticton, Summerland, West Kelowna, Kelowna, Rutland and Vernon. Tryouts will take place the week of March 2nd thru 8th. The locations of the tryouts are to be announced shortly. All players wishing to try out are asked to attend the Sunday, March 1st WinterBall session at the Capitol News Centre (4105 Gordon Dr) at 6:30PM. The
2015 team will be announced shortly after the current D-backs travelling team returns from Arizona in late March.
The cost to play for the D-backs this year will be $950, which will include uniforms, tournament fees, etc. It does not include hotels while travelling, or food. In order to keep fees under $1000 it will be necessary for us to do some (not a lot) of fundraising. This will be for extra equipment and additional coaching costs.
Based on what the coaches have seen so far this year, and the potential to add a few more quality players, we have expectations of a very promising 2015 season. If you wish to try out for the team, please register by March 1st at the following link:
