D-Backs return from annual Arizona Spring Training Trip
The West Kelowna D-Backs returned home this week from their annual Spring Training trip to Mesa, Arizona. This year, 12 players, including 2 players from the Cranbrook Bandits baseball team, made the trek down South for a week of Development Camp and Tournament Games as well as enjoying 2 MLB Spring Training Games and 1 MLB Regular Season Game at Chase Field.
The Camp was guest coached by Ex-MLB manager Jim Lefebvre (1965 NL Rookie of The Year), 2010 USA Baseball Coach of the Year Eric Kibbler and Former MLB Pitcher Aaron Myette (New Westminster, BC). Attending the camp were players from BC Baseball College Prep Teams Cloverdale Nationals & Richmond Chuckers along with the D-Backs. A total of 45 Players participated in the Camp.
Players were instructed on all aspects of the game including hitting, fielding, pitching and baserunning over the course of the week in Mesa, with each player walking away with improved skills.
The MLB Spring Training games let the D-Backs see the Chicago Cubs & Kansas City Royals face off at Suprise Stadium, as well as seeing the Arizona D-Backs face the Cleveland Indians in Cactus League play and a regular season game against the Colorado Rockies. The WK D-Backs would like to thank the Arizona D-Backs association for the complimentary tickets to the games and the great hospitality they extended us.
The players were also taken on a tour of Arizona State University, the US’s largest public University, with over 70,000 Students enrolled in the 5 Campus’s.
While the focus of the trip was on development and getting game-ready for the upcoming season, the D-Backs did go 2-2 in Tournament Play without their full roster available. The Snakes fared well and are looking forward to an exciting season ahead.
The 18U College Prep D-Backs kick off their season on the road April 14th & 15th in Richmond and Chilliwack followed by their home opener the next week with a double-header vs Ridge Meadows on Sunday, April 22nd at Mount Boucherie.
